IK Multimedia brings real time vocal processing to
Samsung Professional Audio devices with EZ Voice app and
presents iRig Mic HD-A, the first digital microphone for Android

IK’s vocal effects and recording app is now available for Samsung Galaxy Note 4,
Galaxy Note Edge and more, together with the first digital microphone for Android

November 20, 2014 – IK Multimedia, the leader in mobile music apps and accessories, is pleased to announce another breakthrough in mobile music creation: the release of EZ Voice™ and iRig® Mic HD-A. Together they bring real-time vocal processing and digital audio microphone recording to Android devices for the first time.

iRig Mic HD-A and EZ Voice for Android

With EZ Voice, users will be able to enjoy real-time vocal processing and recording on the latest generation of Samsung devices with Samsung Professional Audio, such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge and more.

iRig Mic HD-A is the first digital microphone compatible with all Samsung devices running Samsung Professional Audio as well as other devices running the just released Android 5 “Lollipop” operating system thanks to its new USB audio support.

Real time vocal processing on Android
The new EZ Voice for Samsung Professional Audio devices offers a simple and intuitive way for every singer to create and capture great sounding vocal performances while on the go.

EZ Voice users can process their performances with effects in real-time by applying up to 3 of the available 9 high-quality effects. EZ Voice includes traditional studio standbys like Reverb, Delay, Chorus, EQ, Filter and Level. It also features creative options such as Tune, Morph and Choir, which let users apply more radical alterations like changing a vocal performance’s key or gender or even adding in extra voices and harmonies. Users can apply these effects individually or select from a number of included presets for a truly immediate recording experience.

EZ Voice also features a streamlined interface that takes the work out of the recording process – it lets users import any song from their music library and use its included “NO VOICE” function to quickly remove the original vocal track. It clears the way for anyone to step in and give a show-stopping performance.

Available on the new Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge – and soon to be available on the Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3 and other devices – this app allows singers and vocalists to enjoy real time effects processing anytime and anywhere.

The new Samsung Professional Audio compatible devices come with Samsung Soundcamp, a free and fully-fledged music studio app that lets musicians record and compose full songs entirely within the device. The EZ Voice app can be used as a standalone application but also as a plug-in inside the new Soundcamp studio for full recording and play-along uses.

Digital audio capture on Android
And now Samsung and all Android 5 users can enjoy high-quality digital recording thanks to iRig Mic HD-A. It’s the first pro-quality digital microphone for Android that allows plug-and-play connectivity via its included USB OTG cable (an additional USB cable is also available for use with PC). The input signal can be set using the onboard gain control while a multicolour LED provides sound level monitoring.

Featuring a 24-bit audiophile-grade A/D converter, a 44.1/48 kHz sampling rate and a low-noise/high-definition pre-amp, iRig Mic HD-A offers unmatched versatility: Singers can perform and record their voices. Musicians and audio engineers can record instruments in the studio and on stage. And broadcasters and journalists can record interviews and other audio sources while in the field. In all cases, iRig Mic HD-A produces recordings with high-fidelity digital sound and superior clarity previously unavailable on the Android platform.

Along with the iRig Mic HD-A, users can also choose from IK’s current range of analogue microphones, such as the iRig Voice, iRig Mic and iRig Mic Cast. All of these use the mini jack for the input/output connection with the device. Now singers, vocalists and everyone who needs to capture high-quality audio on their Android devices have multiple options suiting a wide variety of needs, applications and budgets.

But there’s more to IK’s line of microphones than EZ Voice, they’re also compatible with iRig Recorder (IK’s quick and easy audio recorder) and any other Android app that uses the mini jack or USB input to record and capture audio.

Pricing and availability
The new EZ Voice app for Android/Samsung Professional Audio is available through the Samsung Galaxy Apps store for only $4.99/€4.49. A free version is also available. EZ Voice and iRig Recorder are also available on the Google Play store.

The new iRig Mic HD-A digital microphone will be available in December 2014 via the IK Online Store and select music and consumer electronics retailers for $129.99/€99.99. The iRig Voice microphone is available for $39.99/€29.99, the iRig Mic is available for $59.99/€49.99 and the iRig Mic Cast for $39.99/€29.99 (prices excluding taxes).

Bang & Olufsen has added a colorful flare to selected products, by teaming up with the Danish and internationally acclaimed fashion designer Stine Goya. Stine Goya adds her color expertise to BeoVision 11 (TV) and the wireless speakers BeoLab 17 and BeoLab 20.

The fashion industry has a strong connection with interior design, and defining yourself is no longer a choice in the fashion you wear, but also a choice at home with your choice of decor. The consumer of today has become more brave and daring when using colors – creating a look where ‘basics’ often are chosen for their great quality and are then mixed, modified or updated along the way – creating brand new looks, moods and ways to express yourself. A simple change or update in color enables that.

“We decided to team up with Stine, an esthetic and true professional in understanding and working with color. Stine’s craftsmanship and understanding within her field match the Bang & Olufsen universe nicely, combining the best competences of the two worlds”, says Marie Kristine Schmidt, Vice President Design, Brand and Marketing.

Stine Goya has added four colors to the Bang & Olufsen world: Midnight Green, Rumba Red, Forged Iron and Driftwood. Stine Goya says, “My aim has been to get colors with a hint more of warmth into the existing Bang & Olufsen color palette, enabling people to personalize products in their interior settings”.

About Stine Goya:

Stine Goya was founded in Copenhagen 2006 by the designer of the same name. Stine Goya introduces her seasonal collections by setting a mood through her use of vibrant colors, own designed prints and sculpturally shaped pieces.

Creating different artistic and intellectual garments and accessories, Stine Goya inspires women to express themselves and to step into character. Since graduating from Central St Martins in 2005 with a degree in fashion and print, Stine Goya’s seasonal collections and fashion shows have continued to receive international acclaim because of their agenda to influence the direction of Scandinavian design.

Traditionally LG is one of the stragglers when it comes to updating its flagship devices to the newest Android OS versions. This time around, though, things appear to be different. Hot on the heels of Motorola’s Lollipop soak test for the 2014 Moto X (which should lead to an official update in short order), LG has announced that it will begin rolling out Android’s newest flavor to its G3 phone this week. The update will begin in Poland with other “key markets” to follow soon.

SEOUL, Nov. 9, 2014 ― LG Electronics (LG) this week will begin rolling out the highly anticipated Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade for G3 smartphones starting in Poland this week, to be followed by other key markets in the near future. LG, the first global smartphone manufacturer to offer the Lollipop upgrade in 2014, will subsequently announce an upgrade schedule for other LG mobile devices.

This latest Android OS delivers a host of improvements including a new design language with added depth, shadows and animations. Notifications are improved with a new layout and color scheme and will be available on the new lock screen. A new security feature to strengthen the connectivity between devices will include enabling users to unlock their smartphone when it is physically near a pre-registered Bluetooth device such as the LG G Watch or G Watch R. Lollipop also introduces Android Runtime (ART) software to improve performance.

“LG is absolutely committed to giving our customers the best mobile experiences available and bringing Android Lollipop to G3 owners as soon as possible is a top priority,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “The new features and improvements in Android 5.0 will bring a whole new user experience to the G3 and make it even better than it already is.”

Additional details related to LG devices will be announced in the near future as the Lollipop upgrade becomes available in local markets.

As for the United States, keep in mind that carriers will be involved, so don’t expect it in the immediate future. That said, hopefully this announcement means that the ball is rolling with the US providers.

Synology at a Glance

CHATSWORTH, CA — One presenter stands in a Los Angeles office interfacing with the background image projected behind her. The other presenter stands right next to her, working in tandem with the background image, but is physically based in Ohio. Welcome to SightDeck, where Hollywood’s green screen technology meets corporate and educational applications.

Since 1976, Ultimatte has proven itself a leader in green screen compositing technology designed for television and motion picture applications. Ten years ago, Ultimatte began to develop a similar technology without the green screen for corporate, presentation and educational applications. SightDeck’s goal was simple: deliver green screen-inspired technology to the corporate world, assisting in distance learning, sales pitches and related applications.

To achieve this and create a solid, plug and play package, Ultimatte turned to Gefen for digital signal management solutions that would prove to be extremely reliable in the field.

“We saw nearly unlimited applications because SightDeck works exceedingly well with projected images and we already had the masking technologies of green screens,” says Lynne Sauve, president, Ultimatte. “We knew that to be successful, SightDeck had to be easy to implement, and we envisioned an absolutely plug and play system with a little help from Gefen.”

SightDeck creates a mask of the presenter(s) in real time and enables complete interactivity with background graphics, created beforehand.  SightDeck is essentially a hardware system, including a screen, camera, projector and server card backed by Gefen signal management hardware to enable seamless connectivity.

When two or more SightDecks are combined  you can double your imagery with two simultaneous outputs. So your colleague in Ohio can present in real-time right alongside you. Presenters can see each other and reference each other. In this way, SightDeck enables the creation of panel discussions with people located all over the world, looking as if they are all in the same room.

SightDeck’s high definition camera supports two images: the masked presenter(s) and the projected graphics. It will work with most projectors with a less than 3 frame delay and minimal thermal drift. It supports touch screen technology so presenters are able to manipulate and interact with projected content and other presenter’s movements in a seamless fashion.

“You really have to see this in action to believe it,” says Sauve. “After ten years of intensive development, we perfected the essence of green screen for the corporate world. It’s basically a kind of virtual reality that can encourage and support live interactions between people located all over the world. It really takes presentations to the next level.”

With touch screen technology applied to the projected background, presenters can control, edit, change or add to content being projected. “Anything you can control on the PC, you can control on the touch screen behind you,” explained Sauve. All content can be simultaneously output in high definition format, streamed live and recorded with a first generation quality output.

Editing tools on the GUI can appear projected on the background image or hidden from everyone but the presenter. Everything is user controlled.  A video conferencing codex is built into the system so someone can dial-in and be heard as well as seen by the presenter or everyone participating. The system is totally interactive and contains multilayered transparencies to bring people into the picture, visually dissect issues, collaborate and problem solve.

Content is output as 720p/60 HDSDI and SightDeck includes two Gefen Scalers to support the 720p output. “The Gefen Scalers are highly reliable and work intuitively behind the scenes. They really help make the system plug and play; nobody has to play around with video resolutions.”

Gefen’s USB Extender is also included for remote touch screen applications. “Gefen is an integral part of the SightDeck solution,” adds Sauve.

IK’s popular and powerful loop-based groove making app
and its full-featured mobile DJ app now offer iOS 8 optimisation,
plug-and-play iRig Pads support and more

October 30, 2014 – IK Multimedia, the leader in mobile music creation apps and accessories, today announced the latest versions of GrooveMaker® 2, its popular loop-based groove making app for iPhone and iPad, and DJ Rig™ for iPad, its full-featured mobile DJ app. Both now feature iOS 8 compatibility and native plug-and-play support for iRig® Pads, IK’s new ultra-portable MIDI groove controller. In addition, GrooveMaker 2 now allows real time inter-app audio routing through Audiobus 2. The new versions of GrooveMaker 2 and DJ Rig for iPad are the most advanced released so far, and both will help DJs and digital musicians take their mobile performances to the next level.

GrooveMaker 2, DJ Rig and iRig Pads

Optimised for iOS 8
GrooveMaker 2 and DJ Rig for iPad are both now fully optimised for iOS 8 and Apple’s latest generations of mobile devices. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users will be able to take advantage of their device’s increased screen size while cueing loops and grooves with GrooveMaker 2. When it comes to the new iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3, GrooveMaker 2 and DJ Rig for iPad users will be able to enjoy the speed and power that their new devices allow. And all GrooveMaker 2 users will be able to take advantage of its new support for Audiobus 2 in iOS 8, which allows for inter-app audio routing between compatible music apps for wildly inventive sonic combinations.

Grooves to go
The biggest leap forward with the two new versions comes in the form of native plug-and-play support for IK’s iRig Pads MIDI groove controller. Featuring 16 velocity-sensitive, backlit multicolour rubber pads, it gives users a new tactile way to get creative with their favourite apps while working “outside the box”. When GrooveMaker 2 is paired with iRig Pads, it automatically provides two separate modes, Groove Mode and Launch Mode. These customise the pads, knobs and sliders to let users control groove length, browse through loops, tweak effects, trigger Randomixes and a whole lot more without having to touch their device’s screen.

Digital decks
DJ Rig for iPad also natively supports iRig Pads, and when the two are paired together DJs can take control like never before. iRig pads can be used with each of DJ Rig for iPad’s different sections to allow for tactile hardware responsiveness while syncing and crossfading tracks, triggering samples, adding effects and more. With iRig Pads and DJ Rig for iPad, users now have a powerful portable DJ setup that can be taken anywhere.

Pricing and availability
The latest versions of GrooveMaker 2 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and DJ Rig for iPad are available now on the App StoreSM as free updates for existing users and as either free or paid apps for $9.99/€8.99 and $19.99/€17.99 for new users, respectively.

Fun fact: Microsoft was working on “smart watches” a solid decade before the current craze. Microsoft partnered with Fossil and a few other watch makers to release SPOT Watches, which received information updates via FM radio broadcasts. I don’t want to say that SPOT watches were terrible, and I don’t have to, because this Cnet review does it for me. Maybe Microsoft is trying to capture the not-so-glorious days of early 2000s smartwatches, because the company’s research division has just posted an experimental keyboard for Android Wear.

Actually, the Analog Keyboard Project seems like a pretty good idea. Instead of trying to replicate a full smartphone-style virtual keyboard on a tiny watch screen, or adapting an alternative input for the smaller form factor, Microsoft is indeed going back to an earlier design standard. The app, currently offered “for research purposes,” uses gesture input to allow the user to “write” directly on the screen one letter at a time. Old Palm Pilot owners will recognize this as being very similar to, if not inspired by, Palm’s Graffiti writing system. (Incidentally, Palm is the other company that tried smartwatches around the same time. It didn’t work any better for them.)

Right now the Analog Keyboard Project is at a truly experimental stage: it’s only available as a downloaded APK that has to be installed manually on an Android Wear watch via ADB. It’s also unsupported on watches with a resolution of 280×280, which means the LG G Watch alone is incompatible (at least for the moment). And, not to put too fine a point on it, there aren’t many applications that actually benefit from direct text input on Wear. Still, if you’d like to give it a spin, you can check out the download link below. Though Microsoft makes an impressive amount of Android apps, usually in support of its various web-enabled programs, this one isn’t available on the Play Store.

NOKIA LOGOWitnessed by German and Chinese government leaders at Sino-German Economic Forum in Berlin
Nokia Networks further strengthens its TD-LTE footprint in Chinese wireless equipment market
Berlin, Germany – Nokia Networks and China Mobile today announced a framework agreement for mobile communication equipment and services valued at 970 million USD (760 million euros). The agreement was signed at the Sino-German Economic Forum in Berlin by Li Huidi, Vice President of China Mobile, and Hans-Juergen Bill, Executive Vice President at Nokia and also Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nokia Networks GmbH & Co KG in Germany.
Under the terms of the agreement, Nokia Networks will provide its 4G TD-LTE technology including Evolved Packet Core* (EPC) and GSM wireless networking equipment, core application platforms, OSS, software, and services to support China Mobile’s 4G wireless broadband network rollout in 2014 and 2015. Deliveries under the agreement commenced in Q1 of this year.
“This contract marks another milestone in the strategic partnership between China Mobile and Nokia Networks. We have been closely cooperating throughout the past years to jointly commercialize and globalize TD-LTE, and this agreement will further accelerate 4G TD-LTE development in China as well as worldwide,” said Markus Borchert, President of the Greater China region at Nokia Networks. “We have been a key global driver over the past 16 years in making TD technologies (TD-SCDMA/TD-LTE/TD-LTE-Advanced) become global standards, both of which are strong proof points of our delivery capabilities for the largest TD-LTE networks in the world. Our proven capabilities and commitment have made Nokia Networks the most reliable partner for China Mobile which is further underscored with this framework agreement.”
China Mobile, the world’s largest wireless operator, is leading China’s TD-LTE network rollout and commercialization with over 500,000 4G base stations deployed, and has the goal of building the world’s largest TD-LTE network by the end of 2014.
Nokia also received the prestigious People’s Republic of China Friendship Award hosted by the country’s State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs for its long-standing commitment and dedication to developing the TD-LTE technology standard. This is the highest level recognition awarded by the Chinese government to non-Chinese experts for their contributions to the country’s economic and social progress.
With 46 TD-LTE radio references, Nokia is supplying approximately half of all commercial TD-LTE networks globally and is the only vendor to have deployed TD-LTE on all six continents. Nokia has also established a complete TD-LTE value chain in China, including TD product headquarters, product design, R&D, testing, manufacturing, procurement, sales and marketing. Nokia Networks’ R&D site in Ulm, Germany, has contributed significantly to the company’s LTE innovation.
