Whatsapp version 2.8 is currently back in the marketplace and available to download for free.  No changelog has been provided but it comes with a few improvements.

WindowsPhoneApps.es notes the following obvious changes:

Three new options on the toolbar: “Search”, “Status” and “Create Group”
Its not possible to attach a location to a message
Its now possible to share a contact in a message
